Chicago-area L-Visa Immigration Attorneys
L-visas, also called Intracompany Transfers, are a type of non-immigrant temporary work visa. These visas are available to workers who have specialized knowledge or who are at the executive or managerial level in a foreign branch, subsidiary, affiliate or parent of a U.S. company. At Ana M. Mencini & Associates, P.C. we are skilled in helping temporary workers obtain the visas they need to work in the U.S. We assist Chicago-area businesses of all types and sizes through the visa process and ensure that applications are handled correctly from start to finish.
Understanding Eligibility for L-Visas
Unlike some other types employment visas like H-1B visas, there is no limit on the number of L-Visas the government can issue. In order to obtain an L-visa, however, the employer and worker must satisfy the eligibility requirements. These include:
• Documentation of the relationship between the foreign and U.S. company.
• Documentation of executive or managerial skills (L-1A) or specialized knowledge (L-1B).
• Documentation of one (1) continuous year of full-time employment over the past three (3) years with the company.
L-visa petitions require substantial documentation and are best handled by an attorney who is experienced and familiar with immigration law. At Ana M. Mencini & Associates, P.C. we have years of experience helping Illinois businesses and foreign workers through the process of obtaining L-visas. The unique structure of our firm allows us to offer our clients greater affordability and accessibility.
Information for L-Visa Holders
The initial duration of an L-visa is three (3) years, however, visa holders may apply for extensions. L-1A visas can be extended up to 7 years and L-1B visas can be extended up to 5 years (in 2 year increments). In some cases, L-visas can be converted to permanent work visas. Additionally, spouses and children of L-visa holders can obtain L-2 visas in order to legally live and study in the U.S. Spouses may obtain work authorization as well.
