A native of New York State, Ms. Mencini moved to Illinois while in her teens and graduated from Fenton High School in Bensenville. She went on to earn a B.A in English from Lake Forest College and was a member of the founding class of Richter Scholars. Later, she received a M.A. in Writing from Chicago's DePaul University. Ms. Mencini earned her J.D. from IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law. An active law student, Ms. Mencini was the Managing Editor of the Chicago-Kent Law Review, a finalist in the College's Moot Court Competition, and the recipient of numerous scholarships. She graduated in the top 13% of her class.


Attorney Ana Mendez Mencini is an experienced and knowledgeable immigration attorney with a history of strong advocacy in service to her clients. Herself the daughter of a Colombian immigrant, Ms. Mencini understands the many challenges immigrants face while dealing with immigration matters. She has the knowledge and experience needed to guide clients through the often-difficult immigration process.

Legal Career

Ms. Mencini began her legal career working for the legal content provider, Lexis-Nexis. She then joined the firm of A. Traub & Cadiz where, as a staff attorney, she worked on family law, bankruptcy, landlord-tenant, and real estate cases. At the same time, she pursued her interest in immigration law by representing, on a pro bono basis, clients seeking asylum in the United States.

In 2005, Ms. Mencini left the firm of A. Traub & Cadiz to open her own law office, which primarily represented clients in immigration cases. In 2011, Ms. Mencini expanded her practice by joining the Chicago-Kent College of Law as an Assistant Professor of Law and the supervising attorney for their Immigration Clinic. In that role, Ms. Mencini supervised law students working on Immigration cases and taught Immigration law. She left Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2014 to concentrate on her private practice.

Ms. Mencini is admitted to the bar in Illinois and the U.S. District Court Northern District of Illinois. She is also a member of several legal associations including:

  • DuPage County Bar Association (serving as chair of the Immigration Law Committee for two terms)
  • Chicago Bar Association
  • Illinois State Bar Association
  • American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA)

Ms. Mencini is the author of a number of articles published on the topic of Immigration. Additionally, she is the author of a legal treatise on Immigration law—the Immigration Volume of Lexis-Nexis' Illinois Jurisprudence series (with the exception of the tax chapter).

Ms. Mencini was a full-time professor at the IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law. There, she educated the next generation of lawyers in Immigration law and directed the clinical education of law students who provided valuable assistance to the Immigration Clinic. She continues to volunteer with the College's efforts to assist faculty, staff, and students in this time of change in the Immigration climate.

Volunteering and Advocacy

Ms. Mencini is an active participant in the immigrant community. She has actively volunteered with World Relief DuPage at their naturalization workshops. She was also a participant in the U Visa Working Group where she helped undocumented crime victims obtain certification needed to apply for U Visas.

In the past, Ms. Mencini has volunteered for MIRC where she won asylum for her clients from Colombia who had been persecuted by the FARC.

Ms. Mencini has also volunteered in the presentation of Know Your Rights seminars and she is a frequent speaker to lawyers' associations on the topic of Immigration law.

Ms. Mencini is an active advocate for the immigrant community. She has been a participant in the American Immigration Lawyers' Association's (AILA) National Day of Action and has met with congressmen to advocate for the reform of the Immigration laws.

Ms. Mencini's education, life experience, and legal experience all serve to benefit her clients as they navigate the Immigration system. She uses her education and experience to help immigrants and foreign nationals achieve their Immigration goals. She is an area resident and the mother of three sons.
