Visiting the U.S.

Visiting the United States for work or vacation can be complicated, even though it is generally simpler than applying for an immigrant visa. It is important to talk with an experienced and honest attorney right from the start to ensure you apply for the right visa.

At the law office of Ana M. Mencini & Associates, P.C., we are all children of first-generation immigrants, and we are compassionate and understanding of your position as a visitor to the U.S. We have the knowledge and experience to help you complete thorough applications to speed along the visa process.

The B-1 and B-2 Visitor Visas

If you wish to enter the U.S. for a short time to visit or work, you may apply for a B-1 or B-2 visitor visa. Eligibility for a visitor visa depends on proof that you only intend to stay temporarily and do not intend to stay longer than 90 days:

  • B-1 Visa: Allows entry for up to 90 days for business purposes, such as business meetings, trade shows, training or other business-related purposes
  • B-2 Visas: Allows entry for up to 90 days for pleasure, such as a visit with family or a vacation

Showing your intent for a temporary stay is a very important part of this type of visitor visa. We can explain how to prove your intent for a temporary visa and walk you through the process.

The Visa Waiver Program

Travelers from certain eligible countries may be able to visit the United States for up to 90 days for business or pleasure without a visa under the Visa Waiver Program. Currently, this is available for foreign nationals from 27 countries. It is important to note that this is a visitor visa, not an immigrant visa, and your stay must be 90 days or less.

Itasca lawyer Ana M. Mencini can explain your eligibility, restrictions and the new regulations that are in place for the Visa Waiver Program. For a list of countries that participate in the Visa Waiver Program, please see the Department of State's Website.
